Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative said the vandalism left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
