A man who spiked treats with sedative and gave them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two young males who were nine and ten years old.
The defendant was arrested after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at the facility in July.
The 76-year-old, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was held in detention before a further hearing on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had worries about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were discovered, and his family member contacted the authorities about his concerns.
She explained the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she added.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the events.
The legal representative said the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the police a second time.
She said the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
