The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in implementing video review technology.
Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.
Athletes are granted the option to question particular calls from the chair umpire, echoing the protocol already in use at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move arrives only a season following the AELTC implemented ELC, which brought an end to the centuries-old role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the ELC system, but they can request the umpire to review specific decisions, including:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there is no limit on the number of challenges a player can initiate.
Practical Application
A recent case occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire watched a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves instances where spectators have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
